In elementary and high school I was privileged to have two teachers who recognized undeveloped artistic ability. Over the years, these were the most influential individuals in my life. They encouraged me to develop artistic expression and took it upon themselves to teach me about the lifestyle of artists. They told me that the lifestyle of an artist would be harder and more honest and meaningful, that my feelings would be exposed for public viewing that many artists deal with the social issues society does not like to talk about. I would find a way to deal with all these things in my work, as my work developed. For many years I thought I had chosen the path of the artist, but like Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken, the path chose me and ” that has made all the difference.”
I am so very grateful for the gift of being an artist, it is my passion and it is what sparks me.
